You’ve already created great content.

Bog posts, newsletters, case studies, shared client work write ups.

All that work writing but never got mentioned again.

You push it out for attention for a week but then it just sits there after.

You know you could reshare it, but repurposing is annoyingly time consuming. And you just want to work on the next task.

The problem with repurposing is that you to reread everything.

Remember your past ideas and then rewrite it in a different angle for a different platform.

This can take hours, so it never gets to the top of the list.

But this is the exact job that ChatGPT Work is built for.

This tutorial helps turn your past content into a month of social posts out the other side.

You will get new content based on your own previous writing.

Let’s get into it.

ChatGPT Chat vs Work? To quickly go over some confusion on the differences between ChatGPT Chat & Work options. Chat is for a short quick answer. (think what you might type into Google to find an answer for) Work is for a task with an outcome: a brief, a deck, an analysis, a spreadsheet. You ask for an outcome and it works over time and will bring back an actual results/file.

What You'll Need

  • ChatGPT on a paid plan, with Work available in the app

  • 5 to 10 pieces of your own content: blog posts, newsletters, case studies

  • An of what your audience actually wants from your content

  • Around 20 minutes (mostly reviewing the outputs rather than writing)

Step 1: Switch to Work

In your ChatGPT app start a new chat, then switch from Chat to Work.

You will also see an option in the bottom right that chooses where this chat will run. On your computer or In the Cloud:

  • Cloud keeps running after you close the app or shut your laptop, and you can pick the chat back up on your phone. This is useful if you will be on the go or don’t want to be tied to your computer.

  • Work on your computer is for when the job needs files or apps on your own machine. This is useful if it needs access to specific files like spreadsheets of presentations.

In this tutorial we will be mostly reading from your published content and producing a file, so we can just choose Cloud.

It also means the scheduled version in Step 6 runs whether your computer is on or not.

Step 2: Pointing to Your Content

You will want to direct ChatGPT Work to your own content. This will make sure that your social content is specific to your actual work and not just generic content.

Example of the Metalabs tutorial library

Attach or point it at:

  • Your last 5 to 10 articles

  • Add in details of anything you know performed well (like a video in the article went viral)

  • Additional information who you are talking to or what you sell etc (for example a podcast guest you talked to & link to their website etc)

If your content is public, URLs links are enough. You can also share a Drive or SharePoint if you have connected these within ChatGPT.

To get even better results.

Give examples of a social post that works really well and briefly describe why. You like the tone of voice or the story structure for example.

You can also share an example of things you want to avoid. Like overly technical writing of long sentences.

When working with AI models the more context you can provide the better your results will be and the less editing and revision you will have to do at the end.

Step 3: Writing the instruction brief

As stated more specific details create better results. Be specific about format, do’s & don’t.

Here’s an example template

Here’s an example template you can use:

Read the attached content (or url/link) provided. Build me a 30-day social calendar as a spreadsheet.

Audience: [who they are, what they are trying to solve]
Platform: LinkedIn, with a note where something suits X instead
Voice: [two or three words, plus a link to a post that sounds like you]

Columns:
- Day
- Source piece it came from
- Format (text post / carousel / poll / short video)
- Hook (the first line, written out in full)
- The point being made
- Call to action

Rules:
- No more than 4 carousels in the month
- Every post must trace back to something in the source material
- Never repeat a hook structure twice in the same week
- Vary the openings: some questions, some blunt statements, some numbers
- Flag any row where you had to invent a claim I have not actually made

Give me a summary tab: which source pieces are working hardest, and which ones have nothing left in them.

That last note helps to tell you where the gaps are, which becomes your ideas for next month.

Step 4: Let It Run

Choose your AI model for the task. These are constantly updating to new & better versions. But as of writing the version is 5.6 and models Luna, Terra, Sol.

To keep it simple I’m going for 5.6 Sol (the most intelligent model) but I’ll use the light effort as this isn’t a highly complex task.

After that you can ket it run. It will take a few minutes.

You do not have to sit and watch. You can grab a coffee, take a little walk or set up another task.

If you see it going off on the wrong direction you can still send another message to steer it to the better direction

Steering it mid-run is better than letting it run to completion and having to rerun it again. In the example below I can ask to change to a 15-day calendar.

Just be sure to remember to press the “Steer” button so it will run instantly or else it will wait until it is completed and then run your instruction.

I actually want to have a 15-day calendar

Step 5: Review and check

I’d argue this is now the most important task when using ChatGPT Work.

You work is now reviewing the outputs and refining it to whatever your goal or specific outcome is.

When ChatGPT finished it will give you a spreadsheet you can open within the app (or you can open in your preferred software).

You should not take all the content in here as final.

These are starting points which still need to be reviewed:

  • Check the hooks. Read the 1st lines does it read like the tone of voice you wanted? Is it accurate to your source content?

  • Invented claims. We asked it to mark anything it invented. You can check that column to see if there are any flags.

  • Summary tab. If 1 blog post produced 11/30 posts, that is your best asset. If an article produced 0 posts, it either failed or was not interesting.

You want to cut things out, re-write and tweak. This is now part of the process.

ChatGPT Work did the bulk of the work, say 80%. By pulling out he interest parts and structuring it ready to review.

Your role is the final 20% polish.

Step 6: Create a scheduled automation

The best part of this workflow. Is to design it well once. And set it to repeat on a schedule.

Open scheduled tasks and set the same brief to run monthly, pointed at whatever you published since. Because you chose Cloud in Step 1, it runs without your laptop being open.

The easiest way to set this up is to just ask ChatGPT to turn this into a scheduled task

On the 1st of each month, repeat the social calendar using anything I have published in the last 30 days. Compare against the previous month's calendar and do not reuse hooks.

It will now run the same steps on it’s own. Your job will just be the editing pass in Step 5.

Step 7: Creating Carousels

Creating variation of content types are important. It helps keep your audience engaged.

We asked for 4 carousels, so those are the four ideas that are worth extra effort. You will have to take this written content and design it in your platform of choice.

I’ll go through how I use SlideDrift (It’s my own tool, you can try it for free)

Here’s my workflow.

Take the hook and the point from each row and paste it into SlideDrift to create the full carousel based on a template you that fits your brand.

You can use the cover creator to design something if you want a cover for your carousel that will stand out and get more engagement.

Troubleshooting

  • The output isn’t on brand: Give more context. 5 real examples posts will do more than a few words.

  • Sounds like a different person: Give it a post that sounds like you and say "match this".

  • It invented a statistic: That is why the flag column is there. If it slipped through, add "cite the source piece and line for any number" to the brief.

  • No Work option in the app: It is on paid plans. Check you are on one and the app is up to date.

A final important note

The goal of this tutorial is so you have content that is ready to be repurposed.

The hooks won’t be perfect first time. You will have to continually tweak, update and edit the instructions and scheduled task.

If something works well. Take note or ask ChatGPT to update it based on that. Like use it as an example.

ChatGPT Work helps do the task you didn’t have time to do. Now your role is the editor.
