Hi tech & AI enthusiasts, this week's highlights:

  • Anthropic Built an AI Model So Powerful It Refuses to Release It

  • Meta Launches Muse Spark, Its Smartest AI Yet

  • Claude Now Works Inside Microsoft Word

  • The Lab: How to Use Claude for Word

  • AI Image of the Week: Japanese minimalist style interior

Let’s get into it.

AI MODELS

Anthropic announced Project Glasswing, a cybersecurity initiative built around Claude Mythos, an unreleased AI model the company considers too capable to make publicly available. It is sharing it with vetted partners to find and fix security flaws in critical software.

What you need to know

  • Finds hidden vulnerabilities: Mythos discovered thousands of security flaws in major operating systems and browsers, including bugs that survived decades of human review.

  • Restricted access only: Anthropic is limiting Mythos to 12 partners including AWS, Apple, Google, and Microsoft, plus around 40 vetted organisations. No public release is planned.

  • Backed by $100M in credits: Anthropic is investing $100 million in usage credits and funding open-source security projects through the Linux Foundation.

Key Ideas

▲ Why it matters: This is a rare look at what top AI labs are building behind closed doors. Anthropic believes models at this level are too risky to release broadly, so it is using Mythos for defence first, with a wider rollout to follow

AI MODELS

Meta released Muse Spark, the first model from its new Superintelligence Labs division. It understands text, images, and video, and matches the capability of its previous models using a fraction of the computing power.

What you need to know

  • Understands more than text: Muse Spark can read documents, analyse images, and reason through problems that combine different types of content.

  • Far more efficient: Meta rebuilt its training process from the ground up. The result matches its predecessor using over ten times less computing power.

  • Available now: You can try Muse Spark at meta.ai and in the Meta AI app. A private API preview is opening to select users.

Key Idea

▲ Why it matters: Meta is signalling a shift from releasing open models anyone can download to building a closed, flagship product. Muse Spark is its play to compete directly with ChatGPT and Claude, not just supply the building blocks for others.

AI TOOLS

Anthropic launched Claude for Word, an add-in that brings Claude directly into Microsoft Word. Highlight text, describe a change, and Claude edits your document using tracked changes, the same way a human collaborator would.

What you need to know

  • Edits with tracked changes: Select any text, describe what you want, and Claude rewrites it as a tracked change you can accept or reject. Your original formatting stays intact.

  • Catches errors you miss: Claude scans for inconsistent terminology, broken cross-references, and numbering mistakes across your document, then suggests fixes.

  • Works from comments: Leave a comment describing what you need, and Claude responds with an edit suggestion anchored to that exact section.

Key Idea

▲ Why it matters: Word is where most business documents live. Claude working natively inside it, rather than through copy and paste from a separate chat window, makes AI editing practical for contracts, reports, proposals, and anything else that needs a careful second pass.
